18 youths on pilgrimage to Sri Pada arrested with drugs

Hatton Police said that 18 youths on a pilgrimage to Sri Pada along the Hatton Road had been arrested for possession of drugs. 

Officers of the Hatton Divisional Anti-Corruption unit said checkpoints were erected in several areas on the Hatton – Colombo main road to arrest pilgrims coming in trains, buses and private vehicles along the Hatton Road carrying drugs and the 18 youths with ganja in their possession had been arrested in a sudden operation carried out in Hatton Railway Station.
Police dog ‘Stewarts’ of the Divisional K9 Unit of Hatton Police has helped the officers to arrest the suspects.


The arrested suspects were between the ages of 20 and 30 and residents of Anuradhapura, Panadura and Colombo and would be produced before the Hatton Magistrate Court, the police said.
