Around 20,000 -25,000 tests – PCR and Rapid Antigen testing are done on a daily average to detect infected people, an official said.
Deputy Director-General of Laboratory Services Dr. Sudath Dharmaratne told Daily Mirror that there is increased public participation in testing after the introduction of home-based care for Covid patients in the country.
“During my inspection tours, I observed it.
People with symptoms such as fever come forward to get antigen tests done. They get the results within 20 minutes. We can identify people carrying high viral loads through antigen tests.
In the past, we had to do a lot of contact tracing for testing.
Now people come forward for testing since they get home-based care,” he said.
