The year 2023 is going to be bleak as there is no sign of Sri Lanka getting into an understanding with the creditors to restructure the debts while there is no assurance on IMF assistance yet, a Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP said yesterday.
SJB MP Harsha de Silva told a press conference that there is no definite sign of Sri Lanka getting IMF support in January this year while there is no sign of agreement with the creditors.
“It has already been reported that 20,000 businesses would fall this year,” he added.
“President should make use of the opportunity he gets to dissolve Parliament in March,” he added while adding that people will not allow a postponement of the local government election,” he added.
MP Imthiaz Bakeer Markar said President Ranil Wickremesinghe should follow late President D. B. Wijetunga who was a transitional President just like him. “Late Mr. Wijetunga resigned from the post at the right time and Mr. Wickremesinghe also should follow this example,” he said.
