The Election Commission yesterday (11) confirmed that 690 nomination papers from political parties and independent groups were accepted for the 2024 General Elections.
However, 74 nomination papers were rejected due to discrepancies, according to Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake.
A total of 764 nomination papers were submitted by political parties and independent groups for the election from 22 electoral districts.
The acceptance of nominations for the 2024 General Election, which commenced on October 4, concluded yesterday (11) at 12 noon.
The highest number of nominations (64) were received from the Digamadulla electoral district.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake earlier announced via an Extraordinary Gazette that the Parliamentary Election will be held on November 14, 2024.
In this election, 225 Members of Parliament will be elected. Out of the members, 196 will be chosen from 22 electoral districts, while 29 members will be appointed through the national list based on the votes each party or group secures.
