At least three people were killed and three injured as heavy showers and strong winds lashed the country due to the low-level atmospheric disturbance that still persists in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.
Heavy rains of more than 100 mm are expected in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western, Northern, and Northern-Central provinces, as well as Galle, Matara, and Trincomalee districts, according to the Meteorological Department.
According to the DMC, three people were killed by falling trees in Bulathkohupitiya and Imbulpe in the Kegalle and Ratnapura districts.
Around 471 people belonging to 128 families in nine districts were affected by the situation, while 168 people were evacuated to safer locations.
The DMC reported that 39 houses were completely destroyed, while another 82 houses were damaged partially.
