A group of 43 Indian poachers in the sea off Delft Island in Jaffna was arrested and their trawlers seized by the Navy Northern Command.
Navy said the fisherfolk had often complained about the Indian poachers in the sea of the North who caused them harassment and damage to their fishing gear and accused the Navy of ignoring the issue.
A senior Navy official said they had suspended the raids to arrest the Indian poachers in view of any possible danger of spreading the CORONA pandemic and that they had resumed the raids again.
The group of Indian poachers and their trawlers were handed over to the Kankasanthurai fishery harbour for further action and that they would be quarantined in a Navy quarantine centre.
