The 55th death anniversary of Ernesto Che Guevara who gave leadership to the Cuban revolution was commemorated yesterday in Yahalakele estate in Moragahahena in Horana with Cuban Ambassador in Sri Lanka Andres Marcelo Gonzales as the chief guest.
The ceremony had been organized by the Socialist Youth League, an affiliate of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP).
It was held near the Mahogany tree planted by Che Guevara to mark his visit to the Yahalakele estate to study rubber cultivation in 1959.
JVP Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath, representatives of the youth league and residents of the area were present at the occasion.
