New National People’s Power (NPP) MP Lakshman Nipuna  Arachchi could not be appointed a Cabinet minister yesterday because the  Attorney General opined against it since he is yet to be sworn in  Parliament, Daily Mirror learns.

He was appointed filling the vacancy created after Mr.  Anura Kumara Dissanayake was elected as the President. Mr. Nipuna  Arachchi is next in line of the list of preferential votes of the  Colombo District at the last General Election. The government consulted  the Attorney General to see the possibility of appointing him as a  Cabinet minister. However, he opined against it since he is yet to take  oaths.
