President Maithripala Sirisena said yesterday that the Attorney General had informed him that the Private Member Bill presented in parliament to abolish the death penalty was illegal.   

He said this at an event held in Divulapitiya yesterday.  The President said that the drug smugglers, criminals and rapists were the happiest about the fight against the anti-drug campaign and added that no room should be spared to fulfil their motives.
