JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has filed lawsuits in the Colombo District Court claiming Rs.20 billion as damages from Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam, Parliamentarian Tissa Kuttiarachchi and Power House Limited for allegedly making defamatory statements and publishing them.
During a public meeting held in Colombo on August 19, SLPP General Secretary MP Sagara Kariyawasam and MP Tissa Kuttiarachchi had allegedly made remarks against National People’s Power (NPP) over its alleged investments in the island nation of Malta.
The JVP leader alleged that the defamatory and baseless allegations made against him by Sagara Kariyawasam and Tissa Kuttiarachchi had been telecast on Ada Derana prime time news bulletin on August 19, without verifying the truthfulness of the statements. Anura Kumara Dissanayaka alleged that the defendants had the intention to defame him when making the said defamatory statements and subsequently publishing them in the media. The JVP leader further said that the statements made by two Parliamentarians to the public were unfounded, absolutely false, baseless.
