The Government will definitely take action against traders who jack up prices of essential goods by making use of the current pandemic situation, a State Minister said yesterday.

State Minister Nimal Lanza said the government had already decided to use the SATHOSA distribution network to provide essential items to the people at affordable prices. “Essential vegetables and fruits are to be sold at affordable prices through economic centres. In addition, the President has instructed the relevant institutions to carry out raids and recover stocks of essential goods which have been hidden by traders,” Mr. Lanza said. “It is sad to note the action of traders who exploit the people,” he added.
