SATHOSA outlets and Cooperative stalls had been instructed to issue each consumer three kilos of brown super from yesterday to ease the prevailing scarcity.
State Minister of Traditional Export Crops Janaka Wakkumbura said this decision was taken on the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The state minister who is indisposed at present had issued instructions in this regard to the relevant officials through the internet and over the phone.
He said adequate stocks would be available to bakery owners, subject to the maximum wholesale price of Rs.116.00 per kilo. State Minister Wakkumbura further said the government was hopeful that the present retail price of Rs.130 per kilo of brown sugar could be reduced to provide further relief to the consumer.
