Chairman of the committee appointed to re draw delimitation of constituencies in local government, provincial and parliamentary level Mahinda Deshapriya said he expects that one of the postponed elections will be held before September 15.
The World Democracy day is fixed on September 15. “Postponement of the local government and provincial council elections is an issue with regard to country’s democracy,” Deshapriya said.
“Authorities should make arrangements to hold either the provincial council or the local government elections which have been postponed soon,” he added.
Also he said it is illegal to administer provincial councils under governors and the local councils under commissioners.
