Two Appeal Court judges have recused from the case filed by the Sri Lankan Parliament against the Right to Information Commission and Journalist Chamara Sampath.
Judges Ruwan Fernando and Sampath Wijeratne announced on January 11 that they have decided to recuse from the case. Accordingly, it has been decided that the Appeal Court President will appoint two new judges to hear the case on January 20, 2022.
Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dassanayake and Deputy Secretary General Kushani Rohanadeera filed a case with the Appeal Court naming journalist Chamara Sampath and Right to Information Commission following a ruling given by the Commission to release information on MPs who have declared their assets and liabilities. Chamara made an appeal to the Right to Information Commission as Parliament failed to release the information.
Sri Lankan Parliament then filed legal action against the ruling given by the Right to Information Commission.
