In the appointment of the next batch of Cabinet ministers, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) requested President Ranil Wickremesinghe to consider its district leaders and those who served in the previous Cabinet, a party official said.

Chief Government Whip Minister Prasanna Ranatunga told Daily Mirror that such a request had been made.
He said there would be a couple of MPs from the opposition joining the Cabinet. According to the Constitution, a Cabinet of 30 can be appointed. There are vacancies for about ten more ministers.

He is uncertain as to when these new appointments would be made. The President also has a busy schedule of work ahead with his planned trips to Japan and the Philippines.
