An army sergeant who had filmed a young woman travelling by train was arrested by Meerigama police.Investigations revealed that the 24-year-old young woman was a university student travelling by train to Polgahawela. When the train had stopped at the Meerigama railway station some passengers had noticed an individual taking photos of a young woman dressed in a frock and sitting in a posture with one leg on the other.
She had not noticed it until the passengers in the Maho bound train told her. She with the fellow passengers had caught and handed over the man to the station master.However, he had managed to escape leaving his mobile phone in the station master’s office. The Meerigama police had subsequently initiated investigations identified the suspect who was a resident of Keenadeniya. When a police team visited his house to find that he had left home for duty at the army camp in Pelawatta at Battaramulla..When the police informed the senior officials of the army camp, the suspect surrendered to police. He was to be produced in court.A police team under OIC Meerigama police CI Hettiarachchi is conducting further investigations.
