Army personnel remanded over abduction

The army captain and three other army personnel who had been arrested by the Norochcholai police for abducting an individual and causing him grievous hurt were produced before the Puttalam District Judge and Magistrate Fathima Sahana Mahpi and remanded till July 12.   

  The judge ordered police to produce them for an identification parade on July 12.  
The suspects were military personnel attached to the Kallaru army camp in Serunuwara. The police had earlier arrested another military official and three relatives of the victim in connection of the incident. court .   The suspects are alleged to have entered a house at Paniadiya in Alankuda in Norochcholai on June 29 and abducted a father of two children and caused him grievous hurt. Police told court that the army personnel had abducted the victim on the instigation of one of his relatives and that a previous animosity between the two parties had led to the abduction.   


Police said they had received information that the relative who planned the abduction was involved in drug trafficking.   


 OIC Norochcholai Police CI Nilantha Bandara is conducting further investigations on the instruction of ASP Kalpitiya Division D.D.P Weerasinghe, SP K.P.Jayamaha and DIG Nimal Perera.
