National Unity Alliance (NUA) leader and former Western Province Governor Azath Salley was arrested by the CID in Colombo last evening in connection with a recent statement made by him, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
He said Salley would be detained under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act following instructions of the
Attorney General.
Recently, Salley allegedly said that he did not respect the law of the land but only respected and welcomed the Muslim law.
Earlier, a five-member CID team was appointed to inquire into the controversial statement made by Azath Salley while Public Security Minister Sarath Weerasekara had said Salley should be arrested for making such a statement.
