The bitter history of strikes will end under the National People’s Power (NPP) government where it will be a thing of the past, NPP candidate Lakshman Nipuna Arachchi said.

Speaking at an election rally, he said the country faced an unpleasant experience of continuous strikes adding that if trade unions had any issues they could discuss it with the government.

“Against whom are they going to strike? If they have any issues, they can discuss them with the government and resolve them. If children go to school, either teachers or principals were on strike. If you go to hospital, doctors, nurses or attendants were on strike. If you want to go somewhere, either the CTB or private buses were on strike. We had an unpleasant history of strikes,” he said.

He said parents will have to teach their children what strikes are and what curfews are after November 14, as strikes and curfews will be a thing of the past under the NPP government.
