The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) cracked down on three warehouses unlawfully stored with 5,400 tonnes of sugar in Gampaha and Seeduwa during the last couple of days, State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna said.
The Minister told a news conference that his office had talks with the Attorney General regarding steps to be taken to institute legal action against the operators of these warehouses.
As a measure to give relief to consumers, he said sugar would be sold at Rs.130 a kilo at Sathosa and Co-operative retail outlets after next Wednesday. Sugar is sold at Rs.220 a kilo at present.
