Power Minister Gamini Lokuge ruled out a power cut yesterday, despite challenges confronting the country. The Minister told Daily Mirror that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) had obtained approval from the Public Utilities Commission to execute scheduled power cuts in case of an emergency only.
However, Mr. Lokuge said there wouldn’t be any interruption to power supply at this time.
The CEB, earlier, suspended operations of two thermal power stations due to lack of fuel for electricity generation.
Asked about it, Mr. Lokuge said the arrangements had been made to secure supplies of furnace oil for power generation. He also said sufficient coal stocks were available to operate the Norochcholai power plant. Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila said fuel would be supplied to the CEB for power generation.
