Following an earlier claim by Venerable Athureliye Rathana Thera that Jude Shramantha who was convicted for the murder at Royal Park residences, the Criminal Investigation Department’ said the accused had not made pecuniary or any other kind of offers to Venerable Aturaliye Rathana Thera or any others.
The Director of CID, SSP Kavinda Piyasekera made this assertion by his letter addressed to Venerable Rathana Thera on 06.01.2023.
The Thera had complained to the CID alleging that Ex-President Maithripala Sirisena’s statement made during the Derana 360 program on 20.06.2022 had veiled that some pecuniary offers had been made by the kith and kin of Presidential pardoned Jude Shramantha Jayamaha to Rathana Thera or to some others.
Hence, the monk had requested by his complaint to the CID to conduct investigations on the veiled statement made by Ex – President Maithripala Sirisena as this might tarnish the monk’s reputation as he too was involved in rehabilitating Jayamaha at the Magazine Prison.
The Director of the CID had affirmed that their investigations conducted so far had not revealed any such pecuniary offers made by Jude‘s father Don Gregory Preethi Neville Jayamaha or the mother Sandra Jenifer Mary Jayamaha or had committed any other criminal offences by them.
The CID further asserts that Ex- President Maithripala Sirisena had pardoned Jayamaha by following the due process of law. Since it does not reveal criminal offences committed further investigations are terminated.
