Despite several teams being dispatched, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is yet to locate former Minister Johnston Fernando to be taken into custody in connection with investigations into the attack on peaceful protesters at Temple Trees and Galle Face on May 9. Police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that several police teams are still investigating to locate the former minister.

Last week, the Attorney General informed the Fort Magistrate’s Court that four persons including former minister Johnston Fernando and Colombo Municipal Councillor Mahinda Kahandagama will be named as suspects in the case filed over the incidents. The CID arrested Mahinda Kahandagama on June 2 only after he surrendered to the CID after he was named as the suspect. He was later remanded till June 8 by Colombo Fort Magistrate.
