It is important to take all necessary steps collaboratively and appropriately, if we are to avoid a major havoc in the coming weeks
While expressing that the country is currently at a crucial juncture in terms of the COVID-19 situation, Senior Consultant Physician at the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama said the situation would end up in a major catastrophe if proper measures are not taken right now.
“It is of utmost importance to take all necessary steps collaboratively and appropriately, if we are to avoid a major havoc in the coming weeks,” he told media yesterday. “If we analyse the trend in other countries in terms of the spike in COVID-19 cases, Sri Lanka would have to face a similar fate and the number of infections would go up further,” he said. Thus, Dr. Wijewickrama said the country was sure to face an alarming situation in another three or four weeks, if we fail to take appropriate measures. Meanwhile, Dr. Wijewickrama said there was no issue for breastfeeding mothers to get the vaccine. “However, we are yet to determine whether pregnant mothers could be administered the vaccine,” he added.
