Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) had sought the assistance of the Tamil Nadu state government to enhance education, skills development of estate sector youth, a party statement said yesterday.
The CWC statement said a delegation led by Jeevan Thondaman, who is on a visit to Tamil Nadu, met Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. K. Stalin yesterday where they sought the assistance of Tamil Nadu in this regard. Nuwara Eliya District Member of Parliament Maruthapandi Rameswaram, Liaison Secretary to the Prime Minister Senthil Thondaman and CWC dignitaries accompanied Mr. Thondaman at the meeting with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
“In addition to the scholarships by the Central Government of India to the Tamil students of Indian descent living in Sri Lanka, obtaining 100 Scholarships to pursue degrees in the fields of “Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture, Technology” through Tamil Universities, the acquisition of Lecturers and Professionals for the Upcoming Upcountry University with the Assistance of the University of Tamil Nadu was discussed at this meeting,” the statement said.
“Training Indian industry experts in motor vehicle technology, electronics, construction, computer technology and agricultural machinery, producing technical industry resource persons for technical colleges and institutes operating in the plantation areas, IT training, science and English education development training for upcountry school teachers, training of youth in the livestock sector with the assistance of Tamil Nadu State government were also discussed,” the statement added
Mr. Jeevan Thondaman handed over a letter containing the demands to the Chief Minister.
