Cabinet nod for nine-member Economic Council

The establishment of an Economic Council comprising nine members received the Cabinet nod yesterday.

The Economic Council will convene weekly and will operate with the objective of boosting economic growth.
Focus areas include overall management of the national economy, behaviour of the economy after its impact from the pandemic, economic restructuring, and major development projects that affect economic and financial policies.  Chaired by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, and in addition to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, appointed to the council as members are: Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardena, Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando, Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Minister of Plantation Ramesh Pathirana, Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Secretary to the President Gamini Senarath, Secretary to the Treasury S. R. Attygalle, and Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Dhammika Nanayakkara.
