Several carcasses of samburs have been found floating in Ambewela tank in Nanuoya for more than a week, much to the anxiety of residents of the area and the fisherfolk.
Fishermen depending on freshwater fishery in the tank said that at least ten samburs died in a week. They said dogs released to the jungle for game hunting were striking samburs frequenting the tank to drink water. The injured samburs jumped into the tank to escape the dogs and drowned.
They pointed out that the decomposed carcasses of several well grown samburs were floating in the tank and that it resulted in extensive environmental damage and inconvenience to the people due to the nauseating smell.
They requested the wildlife conservation officers to focus immediate attention in this regard.
