The Chairman of the Kinniya Urban Council who was arrested in connection with the incident in which six people, including four schoolchildren were killed when a ferry capsized in the Kuringankerni Lagoon, was remanded till December 9 yesterday.
Police said the chairman was arrested on several charges, including allowing the ferry to operate across the lagoon.
He was taken into custody by the Kinniya Police yesterday after obtaining a statement regarding the incident.
The arrested chairman was remanded after being produced before the Trincomalee Magistrate.
Earlier, the police arrested the owner and two operators of the passenger ferry over the incident. They were remanded till December 8.
Six persons including four children had drowned and 20 others were hospitalised following the incident.
