Several ruling party politicians lead by chairman of the Maharagama Urban Council Tiraj Lakruwan lodged a complaint in the police against two other politicians and a few others who interrupted projects of the council.

“We demolished the public toilet as per the legal and financial allocations vested upon us. But two urban councillors came along with 15 other people and interrupted our duties. To date, the police haven’t taken any action against them. We therefore came to meet the Police Officer-in-Charge (OIC) and inform him about the incident. Certain groups don’t want this city to get a facelift. But I believe that this city should be transformed in to a beautiful city,” said UC Chairman Tiraj Lakruwan.

He further said that he doesn’t want to name the persons behind the incident as it would not be ethical. “But what happened is unfair and they have thrown baseless allegations at us. If there has been some sort of corruption or injustice as they claim, then a proper investigation should be conducted first rather than making allegations against us on media.”

The UC Chairman charged that those who interrupted the duties have been involved in unlawful gatherings and interfering with the duties of the UC.
