Slight enhancement of rainy conditions is expected in the country within the coming days due to an Easterly wave in the vicinity of the island.
Easterly wave is a type of atmospheric trough, an elongated area of relatively low air pressure, oriented north to south, which moves from east to west across the tropics, causing cloudiness and thunderstorm.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere during the afternoon or night. Fairly heavy showers above 75mm are likely at some places in the Eastern Province and in Galle, Matara, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Matale and Polonnaruwa districts as well.
However fair weather prevailed in most parts of the country with highest rainfall of 47mm reported from Algama in the Kegalle District.
