As it was alleged by an Opposition member of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) that there has been a scam behind the payments of charity allowance (Pin Padi), which included allocating payments for some deceased members of the elderly community, Mayoress Rosy Senanayake yesterday challenged the members to produce the list.
“This is a false allegation and therefore I ask the Opposition members of the CMC to produce the list,” Mayoress Senanayake said.
CMC Member Sharmila Gonawala told Daily Mirror that out of those for whom the charity allowance are being paid, around 600 persons have not turned up to collect them. “There are dead people among these 600 persons,” Gonawala said.
