Chief Incumbent of Mihintale Rajamaha Viharaya Ven.Walawahengunawewe Dhammarathana Thera said he was subject to political victimization by withdrawing the security forces and the Civil Security Department from the renovation project of the temple with immediate effect.
“This follows my participation in a media conference organized by university teachers against the government’s taxation scheme the day before. He said he always stood by the people and not by the politicians,” he said.
Ven. Thera told the media yesterday that he had not yet been informed regarding the order to the security forces.
“They had been attending presently to the renovations of the shrine room for Sacred Relics of the Buddha and Ven. Arahath Mahinda Thera in several caskets. They have dismantled the doors in the shrine room during renovations, exposing the caskets of Sacred Relics and the statues to the elements. The government would be held responsible for any damage caused to them.
The security forces are attending to the restoration project of the Mihindu Maha Seya. The project is funded by the public of all religious denominations.” Ven Thera further said.
