China decided to donate 10.6 million litres of diesel to farmers and fishermen in remote areas of Sri Lanka to improve the livelihoods of people in the agriculture and fisheries sector, a Chinese Embassy spokesman said.

The shipment is expected to arrive either in November or December. Diesel will be distributed among the needy people.

‘As strategic cooperative partners featuring profound traditional friendship, China and Sri Lanka always stand together and help each other. We relate deeply to the difficulties and challenges faced by Sri Lanka at the current stage and have provided much-needed livelihood assistance within our capacity for the Sri Lankan people in various ways. In the past five months, the Chinese government has already handed over 5,500 metric tonnes of rice and Rs.3 billion worth of essential medicines as an emergency humanitarian donation to the island,” he said.
