Aiming to tackle the chronic kidney disease with unknown etiology (CKDu) and provide safe drinking water, the China-Sri Lanka Joint Project established by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2015 is committed to all-round, long-term cooperation of water, environment and health between two countries, providing solid scientific and technological support and capacity building for water security in Sri Lanka.

Professor Wei highlighted that the project has already trained 66 Sri Lankan water and medical professionals, 43 graduate students, and provided high-quality drinking water for over 5300 villagers and primary school students.
“We believe that only by practicing multilateralism and giving priority to cooperation on livelihood can truly benefit people’s livelihood.

We are willing to establish and strengthen contacts with all parties, form a joint force, build a high-level, multidisciplinary and inter institutional talent team, make contributions to further building a fair, harmonious and green world,” Wei said.
