In reference to the page one photo caption in our edition published yesterday, the Defence Ministry has sent the following clarification:
“The Ministry of Defence would like to express its regret regarding the misleading interpretation conveyed in the caption. It is clarified that the Tri-Forces Commanders and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) were not bowing to the President in the photograph. Instead, they were in the posture of taking their seats behind the President.
I also would like to inform you that the Chief of Defence, Staff Service Commanders or the IGP do not bow or required to bow to the President. They salute their superiors.
The Ministry emphasizes that the President, along with the Service Commanders and the IGP, paid their honour and respect to the Independence parade as it passed by the Main Dais where the President was standing. After the parade concluded, the President took his seat to witness the 76th Independence Day cultural show, and the Tri-Forces Commanders and the IGP proceeded to be seated.
