Climate Secretariat under Ruwan

The Government has decided to set up a secretariat to manage climate change in Sri Lanka which is to be monitored by Presidential Advisor Ruwan Wijewardene.   


The President’s office said that the Secretariat which will be set up following the advice of President Ranil Wickremesinghe will be responsible to manage and minimize the effects of climate change.    

Many countries have set up similar secretariats to minimize climate change effects according to the President’s office.   


Director General Climate Affairs UN Erik Solhem is also expected to back the new secretariat.   


Meanwhile President Wickremesinghe is expected to come out with details on the Climate Secretariat during the COP 27 conference which is to be held in Egypt from November 6 to 18.
