Colombo has been placed on high alert to brace itself for the spread of new COVID-19 mutations after 14 people were found with such mutations within the city a few days ago, Chief Medical Officer said.
Colombo Municipal Council’s (CMC) Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ruwan Wijayamuni told Daily Mirror that results of the tests done on 14 people will be sent to the Ministry of Health and the ministry will let him know about the mutation in a few days’ time. “We will know about the mutation once the ministry gets back to us with the correct information,” he said. “The 14 persons who tested COVID-19 positive, have been sent to a treatment centre and therefore we have to place ourselves on high alert,” he added. It was also reported earlier that most of the patients out of the 20 detected with the Delta variant are from Colombo.
