A Colonization Officer in the Tissamaharama Divisional Secretariat was taken into custody yesterday by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption on suspicion of obtaining a gratification of Rs.200,000 to issue a land permit.
Residents of the area had complained to the Bribery Commission against the official who had allegedly obtained gratifications to issue land permits and grants. He was a resident of Ulhitiyawa in Middeniya.
A team of Investigation Officers of the Commission under IP Prasanna had recorded the complaints of the victims and arrested the official when he accepted a gratification of Rs.200,000 from an individual from Kirinda in the Divisional Secretariat premises.
A senior official of the Divisional Secretariat said the suspect had been taken to Colombo after being produced before the Tissamaharama Magistrate.
