Constitutional Council yet to reveal its stance on new acting IGP’s appointment

The Constitutional Council is yet to give its stance on President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s decision to appoint Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon as the new acting IGP, the Speaker announced yesterday.


Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said he received the name of the Acting IGP on Wednesday afternoon. Consequently, the Speaker said that the Constitutional Council is expected to convene soon to make a decision on the appointment.


Meanwhile, newly appointed acting IGP Tennakoon assumed duties in his office last morning.


The President appointed Tennakoon as the acting IGP for three months on Wednesday.
