The Consumer Affairs Authority had sealed 13 rice mills in Welikanda, Sevenapitiya, Katuwanwila, Aralaganwila, Damminna and Nikawathalanda areas in the Polonnaruwa district which were not registered with the CAA to purchase and store paddy.
Senior District Investigation Officer of the CAA H.G.C.Kumara said a stock of more than 2.5 million kilos of paddy were seized during the raids over the last three days.
He said several rice mill owners agreed to sell their stocks of paddy to the Paddy Marketing Board for the government guaranteed price, failure of which would result in legal action against them. CAA official said they carried out the raids on the instructions of Director of the CAA Mjr.Gen. Shantha Disanayake(Rtd).
