United National Party (UNP) yesterday urged the government to convert the state-owned building into satellite hospitals.
Former UNP MP and working committee member Ashu Marasinghe told a press conference that government should carry out a study to determine state-owned buildings that could be turned into temporary hospitals and convert them into satellite hospitals.
“Government should follow other countries and convert unused state-owned buildings and turn them into satellite hospitals. The Mahinda Rajapaksa Conference Hall which is not used at the moment could be turned into a hospital and connect it to Hambantota hospital via satellite,” he said. “These temporary hospitals can be used to treat 4,000 COVID-19 patients who are treated at their homes,” he added.
