The Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) requested the Sri Lankan Chapter of the World Health Organization (WHO) to assist in creating awareness among estate sector workers on the importance of getting vaccinated against Covid, a party official said.
CWC Vice Chairman Senthil Thondaman told Daily Mirror he, along with State Minister of Backward Rural Areas Development S.Viyalendran, met with WHO Representative to Sri Lanka Dr. Alaka Singh last Saturday and discussed it. He said Covid is spreading fast among estate Tamils because they live in congested environments, sometimes with common toilets and bathing facilities, and it is important to encourage them to get vaccinated. “We have to create awareness on the seriousness of the disease. People in the estate sector are susceptible to Covid because they live in line rooms. They should have self-interest in this case,” he said.
