Several main trade unions of the Sri Lanka Customs have warned a work to rule action with immediate effect over a series of incompetent management practices, which had not been addressed in the recent past.

Customs Trade Union Alliance demanded that the amended recruitment process, which had been delayed for four years now, should be addressed immediately with promotions based on those including related salary increments and other benefits.

The CTUA issuing a media statement yesterday said the Sri Lanka Customs had earned a record revenue of Rs.978 billion during 2023 and a record monthly revenue of Rs.120 billion during the month of January this year.

They stated that to achieve these record revenue targets the operational units had performed with great dedication and commitment but the poor practices of the human resources department had caused a host of issues.

The unions said that they have been forced to resort to work to rule action even though they prefer not to do so in the first place. The work to rule action will however, not affect the Customs’ direct service with the public like imports and exports.
