A young woman answering a call on her mobile phone while walking along the railway line had been run over by a train at the bridge between Hatton and Kotagala railway stations
on Saturday evening (19).
She had been on the phone without paying attention to the oncoming Colombo bound express from Badulla
The victim Jeganathan Menaka (17) was from Kudagama in Hatton. Investigations revealed that she was on her way home after visiting Kotagala town when she met with the accident.
The body had been handed over to Kotagala railway station by the railway security officers. It was referred to JMO Dikoya Base Hospital for postmortem examination.
