With a written assurance from the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) the decision to conduct a non-violent protest at temples has been withdrawn, Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thera said.

He said the PUCSL has agreed to provide a concession for the increased electricity bills of religious places.
Earlier, a decision was taken to keep temples in the dark on this Poya Day to protest against the government’s failure to take action and not provide concessions for the electricity bill payments of religious places.

He also said that all temples will be informed not to give up this non-violent protest until the government comes to a decision.

This non-violent protest was scheduled to start today from 6.p.m. to 10.p.m.
During the protest, all lights in temples will be switched off, the thera said.
