Addressing a seminar organised by Galle SSP Sathis Gamage to create awareness among pharmacists in the Galle Police division regarding the increasing demand for tablets and capsules misused as intoxicants.

“ I have received information on a doctor in Elpitiya issuing prescriptions to drug addicts to purchase capsules and tablets used in place of intoxicants. Drug addicts from several areas including Bentota, Kosgoda and Galle are in the habit of obtaining false prescriptions from that doctor. Pharmacists should be particular about the authenticity of prescriptions” Dangerous Drug Control Board official further said.

Psychiatrist of Karapitya teaching Hospital Dr. Mrs. Wasuda Mathangaweera requested pharmacists to focus attention on the appearance of suspicious individuals producing prescriptions, particularly those with discoloured nails and  shabbily dressed.
