Dengue cases double in 2023 compared to 2020/2021

The tally of Dengue cases reported for 2023 has surpassed the 60,000 mark with health authorities warning of 2023 would end as the highest number cases in recent time.   According to the Epidemiology Unit, as of July 20, a total of 60,290 cases have been reported so far in 2023, with the highest number of cases being recorded from the Colombo district as 12,906.   Further, the Western Province has recorded nearly 30,000 cases, the highest in terms of provinces.   


Moreover, the Epidemiology Unit has identified 43 high-risk MOH areas where dengue breeding places have been found in abundance.   
The month of August has also logged 3,601 Dengue cases.  Meanwhile, a total of 38 fatalities have been reported since January 2023.
