Deputy Speaker Ranjith Siyambalapitiya yesterday said he will resign from the post today.
Mr. Siyambapitiya told Daily Mirror that he will resign from the post from today as per the statement he made in Parliament recently. “I said that I informed President Gotabaya Rajapaksa that I will remain in the Deputy Speaker’s post only till the end of this month. Therefore I will resign from today (April 30 2022).
“Parliament will have to appoint or elect a new Deputy Speaker next week,” he added.
A number of MPs were named as possible successors to Mr. Siyambalapitiya with the latest being Dilan Perera. It was reported earlier that MP Anura Yapa was proposed.
