Director-General of National Zoological Gardens, Ishini Wickremesinghe has resigned from her post. State Minister of Wildlife Wimalaweera Dissanayake said that she had informed the President about her decision in a letter, stating personal reasons for her resignation.
Meanwhile, in her resignation letter sent to the Secretary to the State Ministry of Wild Life, she had expressed her gratitude to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the Government for appointing her as the Director-General on January 24, 2020.
She said she assumed her duties on February 3, 2020 and had been engaged in the work with honesty and due diligence. "I decided to resign from the post for personal reasons, from September 7, 2021, with only a few months remaining to complete my term, I am deeply saddened to make this decision," she further said in the letter.
