Galle Acting Magistrate Sunil Gnanatilleka who held the preliminary magisterial inquiry into the death of Dr. Parana Palliyaguruge Prabhath Chamara of Galle Teaching Hospital returned an open verdict based on the postmortem report.
Professor in Forensic Medicine in Karapitiya Medical Faculty U.C.P. Perera who performed the postmortem examination had referred the specimens of the body to the Govt. Analyst and postponed his decision on the cause of death.
The body of Dr. Chamara Sampath (37) had been recovered from his house at Bataganwila in Galle.
Police said his wife was a doctor of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital and that investigation revealed evidence of a family dispute. His wife had returned home after visiting her parents to find the body of the doctor lying on the floor. She had told police that she suspected it a case of suicide.
SI Piyaratne of Galle Police led evidence at the inquest.
